Real Get Ronaldo

Manchester United have accepted an £80million offer from Real Madrid for Christiano Ronaldo. The offer is the largest ever transfer fee paid for a player and far eclipses anything that has gone before it. Only a couple of days after announcing the signing of Kaka from Milan, this is a major coup for Florentio Perez, who returned as Real Madrid president only a couple of weeks ago.

Rumours had been circulating for months that a “secret” agreement was in place between Madrid and Ronaldo to bring the player to the Bernabeu during this transfer window, and it apparently stated either side would have to forfeit £30million to the other if they broke their side of the agreement. Clearly, neither side had any intentions of letting that happen, and Ronaldo placed a transfer request with United; with Real subsequently offering the huge transfer fee.
