Perez Confirmed As President

Real Madrid have officially confirmed Florentino Perez has been elected unopposed as Real Madrid president. This is his second spell in charge at the Bernabeu, having being in the top job from 2001-2006. During that time he implemented the “galacticos” policy at the club, brining in world-class players like Zidane, Figo and Beckham.

Reports in the Spanish media claim Perez is set to appoint Manuel Pellegrini as his coach on Tuesday, with a deal having been agreed between Madrid and Villareal. Perez had hoped he could convince Arsene Wenger to take over at the Bernabeu, but the Frenchman could not be persuaded to move from the Emirates. So it now appears Pellegrini is in line for the job.

Perez is set to sign a number of high-profile players over the course of the summer, with reports suggesting he intends to spend up to €300million to return Real Madrid to former greatness. Top of his list is Kaka, with a deal apparently agreed between Milan and Madrid. It is believed the Brazilian could be presented as soon as Thursday, if personal terms are agreed between player and club.

Perez also intends to invest in Spanish players, including David Villa and David Silva. Because Valencia have failed to qualify for the Champions League, they will almost certainly have to sell some of their best players, and Perez is set to swoop for both Villa and Silva.

Many reports suggest Perez is also interested in signing Franc Ribery from Bayern Munich, but the club will be unwilling to part easily with the Frenchman, and Perez will have to offer an adequate financial package to tempt Bayern to sell.

Reports have also been circulating for months that a “secret” deal is in place to bring Ronaldo to the Bernabeu. Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon claims he put together the deal, with a signing fee of €80million. Perez apparently is unwilling to pay that amount for Ronaldo, and is hoping to reduce the signing on fee. If he does manage to get it down to about €60million then there is a chance the deal could go ahead, but only if United agree to sell for that price.
