Real Humiliated in El Clásico

Well it looks like the League is over this season for Real Madrid. Unless Barcelona suffer from some sort of implosion over the next few weeks (which is unlikely judging by their performance tonight) then they will certainly be crowned La Liga champions.

El Clásico on Saturday evening was regarded by both fans and players in Madrid as their chance to finally catch Barcelona and many believed if they managed to win then there was a major possibility they could go on to lift the title for a third year in a row.

Real Madrid started the game well and went ahead on 14 minutes thanks to a goal from Higuain, who was unmarked in the area, after a superb cross from Sergio Ramos, but the lead did not last long as a neat pass from Messi found Henry who made it 1-1. For the rest of the first half Barca dominated possession and were soon 2-1 ahead after Xavi’s free kick found an unmarked Puyol who duly put it past Iker Casillas. Messi then made it 3-1 for the visitors before half time and it looked like Real were out of the game.

But after the break Real started well again and it appeared they may still have been capable of making a comeback when Sergio Ramos headed the ball past Victor Valdes after a pass from Arjen Robben, but then all hopes of a comeback were put to bed two minutes later when Henry ran up the pitch and rolled the ball past Iker Casillas who was forced to come out yards from his line as the Madrid defence seemed to disappear from in front of him.

After that it was pretty much one-way traffic and it was all Madrid could do to limit the score. Juande Ramos made a series of substitutions that did nothing to help the team, as Messi got his second of the night to make it 5-2 and, as fans exited the stadium, Pique wrapped up a stunning victory for Barcelona after 82 minutes to end the game on 6-2 for the visitors.

The defeat to Barcelona on Saturday night means it is Real Madrid’s worst home defeat in El Clásico in 34 years. All the work Juande Ramos has put into the team over the last five months seems to have gone to waste as they threw away their opportunity to catch up with Barcelona and put up a final fight for the title.

It now seems certain that there will be a major overhaul of the squad and management team during the summer. If Perez is elected President (which seems certain if he runs in the campaign) then the fans will surely be demanding some big name signings be made. Over the last couple of seasons Real Madrid have failed to sign any world class players (one can hardly describe Van der Vaart, Metzelder and Heinze as world class........or even class for that matter) thanks to the disastrous presidential reign of Ramon Calderon, where he only managed to sign one of the players he promised during his presidential campaign (Arjen Robben.....and he even came a year late).

So the questions Real fans will be asking are who is going to be their managed next season and what players will be brought in??? If you have any thoughts on the matter then leave a comment!!

Will we see Mourinho taking the hot-seat next season, or will it be Arsene Wenger perhaps?? And what players will they have to work with? Kaka? Christiano Ronaldo? Messi perhaps?

Whatever happens, both Real Madrid fans and players are in for some interesting times ahead!
