Race for the Title

Wow! It looks like the La Liga title race is back on again! Finally Barcelona have slipped up and now there are only 4 points between them and Real Madrid. It means we're in for an exciting end to the season!

A thrilling encounter in the Mestalla on Saturday night ended with a 2-2 draw between Valencia and Barcelona, and gave Real Madrid a golden opportunity to close the gap between them. However, Madrid were facing a stern test in the form of Seville, a team looking to consolidate their 3rd place and who not be easy to beat on their home ground.

The match started badly for Real Madrid, with Seville completely dominating possession and a header from Renato on 15 minutes put them 1-0 up. But a cross from Metzelder (of all people!) just on the stroke of half time enabled Raul to equalize for Madrid.

For most of the second half Real Madrid dominated possession and Raul scored two more, but a lapse in concentration from the champions towards the end allowed Capel to captialize on a mistake by Sergio Ramos and it was 2-3.

The last few minutes were a nervous few for Real fans but a goal from Marcelo in the dying minutes of the game wrapped up the points for the visitors and set up a thrilling encounter with Barcelona next Saturday. With only four points between the teams it's all to play for at the Bernabeau, and with Barca playing Chelsea mid-week, this may be the opportunity for Real to make a dramatic come-back and clinch the top-spot in La Liga for a third year running!

It's sure to be a thrilling encounter at any rate!
